EMF radiation health effects

EMF Radiation Health Effects

EMF radiation health effects is a very polarizing subject. EMF is short for electromagnetic fields. There are many who feel they do affect our health but science is saying it does not affect our health. At least they say the normal technology items we tend to use every day are not harmful.

I think it is worth noting that they also didn’t think cigarettes were harmful for decades and trans fats were on the grocery shelves for even more decades, everyone oblivious to their health effects. So on that note, it’s worth taking precautions because we can protect ourselves from blindly trusting when electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are here to stay. Let’s face it, we keep finding new products and technology that emit them.

First, let’s talk about what electro-magnetic fields are and what produces them. Then we’ll discuss some products that claim to neutralize EMFs.

What Electromagnetic Fields Are

According to National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, EMFs are invisible fields of energy, emitted by electric systems, electronics, and appliances.

There are two types of electromagnetic fields:

Non-ionizing

Low to mid-frequency radiation which is generally perceived as harmless due to its lack of potency.

Sources:

  • Microwave ovens
  • Computers
  • House energy smart meters
  • Wireless (wifi) networks
  • Cell Phones
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Power lines
  • MRIs

Ionizing

Mid to high-frequency radiation can, under certain circumstances, lead to cellular and or DNA damage with prolonged exposure.

Sources:

  • Sunlight
  • X-Rays
  • Some Gamma Rays

This chart should help clarify the different frequencies of EMFs.

How EMFs Can Damage Health

The National Toxicology Program (NTP), part of the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences recently did a 10-year study with rats and mice on cell phone EMFs.

What did the studies find?

NTP studies found that exposure to high levels of RFR, like that used in 2G and 3G cellphones,
was associated with:

• Clear evidence of an association with tumors in the hearts of male rats. The tumors were malignant schwannomas.
• Some evidence of an association with tumors in the brains of male rats. The tumors were malignant gliomas.
• Some evidence of an association with tumors in the adrenal glands of male rats. The tumors were benign, malignant, or complex combined pheochromocytoma

That’s not even taking account what 4G and 5G might do.

In general, scientists do not feel there is sufficient evidence that EMFs cause harm in the lower frequency category. But it’s up to you to weigh the risks and decide if you want to do anything to protect yourself and your family. Keep reading.

Positive and Negative Ions

EMFs emit positive ions which affect mood, cause fatigue, and loss of productivity. Positive ions have a negative effect on our health. Negative ions, on the other hand, make you feel great. Waterfalls, thunderstorms, and just being in nature give us negative ions and help counteract the effects of EMF exposure.

Waterfall creates negative ions.

It feels so cleansing to stand at the base of a waterfall and just drink it in. Walking through a forest gives the same feeling, right? Or at the beach.

There are other ways to get negative ions as well. I’ll give you a few suggestions in the next section.

How to Start Protecting Yourself from EMFs

There are some great tips to help reduce your EMF exposure in the graphic above. I’ve seen several experts mention walking barefoot on the earth helps to ‘ground’ yourself and reduces EMFs a lot.

Eating healthy, antioxidant foods and supplements should also help reduce the effects on your body.

You can read more about detoxing and good foods to eat in my Natural Detox and Cleanse article.

Also, don’t sleep with your cell phone under your pillow. If you do, it’s emitting EMFs a few inches from your brain for hours.

Himalayan Salt Lamps put out loads of negative ions. And they are beautiful! I’ve had one for years I like to have near my desk and I want one for the living room and bedroom.

Indoor water fountains are a great way to relax and add some negative ions where you need it.

Wrapping It Up

So there you have it, a summary of EMFs and the current schools of thought. I hope you enjoyed the article and learned some things about EMFs. There are ways to avoid overexposure and products made to help prevent exposure in the first place. Just getting out into nature is one easy and great way to do that.

  1. Very informative article on electromagnetic fields, or EMFs.  It was surprising to learn that the positive ions are bad for you and the negative ions are good for you.  The article tells us some of the sources of negative ions, which is beneficial to know.  The source that would be most usable for me is the Himalayan Salt Lamp.

How much does a Himalayan Salt Lamp cost?

    1. It varies. On Amazon, they are an average of $20 I’d say. Here is a great one with top reviews by customers at Amazon.  Thank you for reading and commenting. 🙂

  2. I was jus reading this and started thinking how I sleep with my phone everyday and how dangerous that can be. I never think such small things impact our health but I guess it will in the long run especially if I have a habit of keeping my phone close to me and sleeping.

    1. I think a lot of people do. Now you know it’s not the best habit! Thank you for reading and adding your comment, Shrey.
